August 8, 2025 – Saguenay, Quebec
We are back in Saguenay. The Saguenay cruise terminal is located at the Bagotville Wharf in the borough of La Baie, which is part of the city of Saguenay, Quebec. The cruise terminal and wharf infrastructure were inaugurated in 2009.
An absolutely
gorgeous day in Saguenay. Warm temps and blue skies. The view at breakfast of the fjord was terrific. I also got a nice panoramic shot of the fjord.
The plan today is to check out the town which is just a short walk from the Cruise Terminal.
After another fine breakfast, we
disembarked. At the end of the gangway,
we ran into Scott Harris who was on his way to who knows what kind of
transportation to get home. I told him
we saw him years ago, and, in fact, we were neighbors, and he said, to be polite most likely,
that he remembered me from that cruise (maybe he watched the talk on TV back
then). He was nice to talk to and
reminded us of a time when we were part of the entertainment team.
In the large square between the ship and the Cruise Terminal, a number of performers in clown outfits were doing some kind of show – they were mostly kids and maybe the town hired them to entertain the passengers. We walked through the terminal, which, for some reason, had a model of the QM2 on display.
There was also a nice fountain outside the terminal.
Since the weather was nice, there were lots
of people out and about. The adjacent
beach had people soaking up UV.
It's obligatory to document city signs whenever we see one. Saguenay had one at one corner of a small rec area near the pier. When we were here on Cruise #1, the guide told us to make sure we noted the "heart" in the sign.
We stopped in
and checked out a “General Store” which seems to carry everything from drug
store stuff to a sandwich shop, where two young women, wearing gloves, were
making sandwiches. I guess they could be
bought fresh of from the refrigerated shelves which contained all kinds of
food. People probably do take out and enjoy the
view.
We walked along the bike or running path which paralleled the Saguenay River and gave us a great view of the water and the ship.
We found a bench in the shade and got some pictures and just people
watched. There was a restaurant across
the street with a lot of cars and people coming and going. We checked it out and it was packed with
people in line. We might have found
something to eat there but the seating was scarce both inside and out. We retreated to the benches along the
river. Even though the “beach” was a
little rustic there were some people walking along the sand. The little beach near the cruise terminal
looked a little more foot friendly.
This panoramic shot says it all.
The temp got a bit warm (even in the shade) so we returned to the ship.
We had lunch
in the Windows Café on the Sunset Veranda – probably the last
time on this cruise we will be able to do that, as we expect the weather to start turning more into Arctic Mode as we move north. But today
it was perfect. I tried Moretti, an
Italian Beer today along with a Beyond Burger.
Ellen made do with tuna and egg salad and other stuff from the
buffet.
We have been
sitting on Deck 9 – non-smoker side in the pool chairs – they are very deep
chairs and I can’t get out of them unless I put a big pillow on the seat. The area is quiet and you do have windows. I tried to crack some of the windows but only
some of them will open.
The crew is
already breaking down the deck to get ready for the big to do tonight.
Tonight is the
“White Nights Party”. It was
originally scheduled later in the cruise in Qaqortog, Greenland, but changed to
tonight to avoid another freeze out.
We pre-ordered
Special Dinners tonight – Pasta Aglio Olea (HMT) and Pan Fried Duck (ET) and
ate them in the P and Q of Table 1 in the Discoveries Restaurant. I liked my pasta but I don’t think the duck
met Ellen’s expectations.
We went up to Deck 10 - the Party had already started.
Got great seats on Deck 10 with a table.
The air temperature was just right, the scenery perfect, no wind, and an actual table. The crepes Suzette were actually really good and the singers and dancers did a great job.
Bernardo did not sing but he really can dance.
Martin sang “You’re the Reason” by Callum Scott (very well done). The rest of the song list was pretty familiar. Kiera and her partner (I forgot to get his name) did a good job of trying to get people in the dancing mood on the floor. Kiera was unrecognizable with her hair down (somewhere in the photo below).
The crew did their traditional march (napkins waving) and they all gathered (along with the Captain) on stage.
A beautiful, orange, sunset was a bonus.
We
stayed until 9:30 PM or so. It was about
the nicest combination of seating, weather, and performance in our White
Night’s Party history.
Quest departed at 10 PM. A real nice day in Quebec. Both stops in Saguenay have been wonderful.
