August 14, 2025 – Unscheduled Sea Day - Labrador Sea – Cold and Gray – 41F

August 14, 2025 - Labrador Sea

A cold dreary day at sea.

The breakfasts continue to be good.  A little cereal and milk, then cottage cheese and sour cream plus their super sweet jellies.

I had the morning to get the new talk together.  I took a version of my lecture from one I gave earlier this year and used it without changing the color template – it went from Celebrity Blue to glacier gray (appropriate).  I did have to make some changes to make it fit in with the talks I’d already given on board and to update any information and avoid any material I’d already discussed.

We learned that we would arrive in Sismiut in the later afternoon.  To make the day more interesting the Captain said we would indeed sail into a fjord and see some glaciers.  The ship entered Evighedsfjord ("Eternity Fjord"), which turned out to be pretty much fogbound.

There were mountains that were visible through the haze but the glaciers were completely obscured by the fog.  We also did not know what we were looking at - there were no announcements from the bridge.  Disappointing.

Quest exited the fjord and continued north to Sisimiut.

I really like the tuna salad on board so I had a tuna salad sandwich with tomato, pickles, and onions, on some sourdough bread in Windows Café.  Some salad stuff or soup rounded out the quick lunch.  I have started getting iced tea along with meals even though the ice tea is different depending on which dining venue you’re at.  The iced tea in the Café is cloudy and fruity – the drink in the Restaurant is clear and either a light or dark tea color.  I think the tea is dispensed from a machine.  Coffee is also dispensed by machine – I always get the decaf Café Americano from the machine at dinner (at breakfast the coffee and hot water come out of a vat) and it’s good.

I was unsure how the talk would go – Bernardo was running a trivia game when I got there at 1:30 PM for my 2 PM slot– some people were already there and more people were filtering in during the game.

When 2 PM rolled around, the place was full.

The talk went well – I was able to expand on the Grim Sleeper Case.  The presentation in its new form ended a few minutes early and some people hung around.  I took them into the hallway to answer their questions and listen to their comments.

Our afternoon routine continued – Living Room listening to the three trivia contests and watching for whales and sea ice.  We listened to most of VIBZ pre-dinner set - and had a Disaronno and Curacao Sour -

before going to the Discoveries Dining Room.

We didn’t order special meals tonight because there were two menu items that looked good.  Ellen had the butter baked Halibut (I tasted it and it was indeed halibut) and I had the pan grilled Tuna Steak (I had never seen this dish on the restaurant menu).  I ordered it medium well.  Both dishes were OK but not such that we would look forward to them appearing on the menu again.

To that end, we ordered Kosher meals for tomorrow night – Stuffed Peppers, Duck Salad, and Spaghetti Bolognese (in case the other meals were a bust).

The new schedule had Quest arriving in Sisimiut around 8 PM and we watched the sail in from the Living Room.  After a brief rainstorm,

Sisimiut came into view.

The ship will stay here overnight (so guests can take in the night life of Sisimiut – sort of) and then leave early afternoon tomorrow.  We docked near the town – the place looks very industrial and generally deserted.

Showtime tonight was Martin Lawson’s Show.  The show once again was very good and every word and song was exactly like his show on the previous cruise.

Still entertaining.

As soon as Martin was done, we headed for our stateroom.
