March 19, 2025 – At Sea (heading to Cape Verde) – Parly Cloudy – 80s

Beautiful day as Splendor starts her four day crossing (Northwest direction).  The time change really affected me this time and I didn’t get a lot of sleep.  As I've said before, breakfasts are late on this ship with La Veranda opening at 7:30 AM – you can go up a little early and get some cereal and milk, which I did this morning.

I, once again, found the perfect table on the veranda – either Table 62 (the one I have been using so far) or Table 66 (alternate and where I am today).  Today, post cereal, I had the Special of the day, which was French Toast with Chocolate, Vanilla, and Caramel Syrups.  Very good and, today, the coffee did come regularly – I guess normally passengers don’t drink as many cups as I do so the coffee servers do not come round that often.

The ship is doing 17 knots in order to get to the next port on time.  This is what that looks like.

We had a quick lunch at the Grille (salads).

I went to the Constellation Theater at 2:30 PM to set up the system with Stanislav.  I was a little apprehensive since it had been several days since I gave my first talk and I like continuity.  I talked with a few people before I got started on Talk #2 – “Forensics and History: Identifying the Famous and Infamous”.  Another good turnout.  I asked who had attended the first talk (days ago) and just about everyone raised their hand.  I always think that the CSI TV talk is weak but everyone seems to like it and that made me feel better.  I had trimmed a few slides for this talk to try and get it to the 45 minute run time.  The pace was good and the talk ran for 43 minutes.  I met with some people outside the theater and the feedback was good.  I was really whipped after the talk – time change, no sleep, and an hour on my feet (that will do it).

Ellen and I went directly to the Meridian Lounge for High Tea and to listen to pianist, Fabiano.  He is really good and the tea was OK as well.  We even chatted a bit with Tammy, who said the feedback from the talk was very good.  On the way out, I ordered a Mocha from the Coffee Connection and had it while relaxing on our veranda.

We are passing on the show tonight (tribute to Queen) so we can go to the Observation Lounge and hear Fabiano again (he does a 90 minute set each evening).  Another beautiful set.  We went to Sette Mari La Veranda for dinner and it just didn’t work out that well.  Service was slow and confusing (rare occurrence up there) and we had to check on our Lasagna Entre (with Parmesan Sauce).  It turned out that the entrée was not that good – the desserts were somehow disappointing also so all I had was decaf coffee. I did notice that there was challah in some kind of display and since it wasn't Friday, that was just a coincidence or not really challah.

I had some more coffee at Coffee Connection that was better.

We were back in the room early – I was really tired and not feeling all that great (scratchy throat still).  Lights were out at 10:30 PM.
