6/29/2026 Underway - Clear 93F. Not a cloud in the sky.
I had a toss and turn night; no reason for this as the room was quiet and the right temp. This led to my being in the Sky Lounge at 6:55 AM having my usual Special K berries and coffee - on the back deck and enjoying this view.
Underway days are nice because a lot
of passengers are sleeping in and breakfasts are quiet and peaceful. The seats
are wet but who cares. While enjoying my gourmet breakfast, Heritage passed
under the Caruthersville Bridge in Tennessee and then seeing it in the distance as we continue on. And, no, that is not us passing under the bridge on the Google Maps screen grab.
It's very comfortable up here but there's no bathroom on this deck so I went to the
cabin.
At 9:05 AM Ellen and I went back to the Sky Lounge for our real
breakfast. The scrambled eggs were dry again (maybe that's how they are made in the South) so we both had bagels lox and cream
cheese (the lox today were the standard lox). And of course, bagels and butter
dipped in coffee was also part of my breakfast.
We are now on the Deck 4 port side watching the river go by in the shade plus a breeze.
A special treat...our sister ship American Melody passed us on our starboard side. Thanks to the Captain for the heads up.

The Melody is a new ship with no paddlewheel.
The lunch buffet offered lentil soup but it had a meat base. I guess vegetarian options are a rarity here in the Cajun South.
And so it was off to the Restaurant where Salmon Croquettes, collard greens, and a rice casserole awaited both of us. This was the first time I had the iconic collard greens – and based on the taste it’ll be a while until I give them another try. Best part - a Stella Artois.
It was too hot outside so we stayed inside in the Sky Lounge.
At 2:30 PM, Scaryoki involved all sorts of musical noise. I should note here that AV technical problems were the order of the day this entire cruise and today was no exception. The music seemed to be from an online source (there were commercials) and the mics the singers were using did not work all the time. That just added to the charm. Three passengers gave it a try – one woman did “Climb Every Mountain” and broke eardrums and windows far and wide. Ben and Savannah (Guest Services Manager) also chimed in but as they say here in the South, neither of them could carry a tune in a bucket.
We escaped to the cabin to settle down before dinner
Got our table for two again thanks to the understanding host. We both had the Caprese Salad (small but good). We both had the Salmon (seared) with sweet pea risotto and orange marmalade carrots. The Salmon was covered with sweet tomato jam. I liked everything but the carrots. We also shared a half portion of today's veggie attempt: Mac and Cheese w Tofu in BBQ sauce. We’ve never seen or tasted anything like it so we passed. We both ordered the German Chocolate Cake for dessert. As we were finishing up, I spotted Omer Shaish looking for a table (I had seen him earlier in the day but I thought he was just another passenger, albeit not in the demographic). The host was going to seat him at the big table next to us. When he saw us he asked if he could join us. Of course. I think we saved him from a fate worst than death – trying to converse with six people some of them Southerners – a cultural cap for sure.
We finished our delicious desserts. Omer and we discussed all sorts of topics, his background, cruises, and Israel. It was a very pleasant dinner. It was difficult to hear everything because the big table next to us was really loud and the Restaurant was full.
We went to the cabin for awhile before going to the River Lounge to hear Omer's second show. As in his first show, Omer did dress the part of an onboard entertainer.

In the middle of his show, some passengers went outside to see the boat go into the Ohio River.
Ellen got a pic with Omer after the show and cross followed on Insta.
The cabin was quiet and cool.
